Papertrey Ink Anniversary Fun ~ Day 7 ~ Hearts Again

Turns out I do have a PTI heart stamp to use for today's challenge!  I found a tiny stitched heart stamp in an older set called Daily Designs and it was just the missing piece I needed for this card.  Do you recognize the inspiration?  (Click here if you're really stumped)  I have to admit that I'm a sucker for sappy movies, but I like my cards a bit less "gushy":)

The building is made from My Minds Eye patterned paper that I cut down (easy since it's all straight lines).  It's hard to see in the picture, but the stamped heart is embossed (in clear).  The banner is slightly bowed off the page to make it stand out a bit.  Takeaway tip for bowed banners: place a pencil under the middle of the banner when adhering to the card.  That's it for me today!  I've been sneaking in card time in between herding two 12 year-olds through their science projects!  Whew!

Thanks for visiting!

Papertrey Ink Anniversary Fun ~ Day 7 ~ Hearts

Just a quick check-in today to play along with the day seven of challenge over at Papertrey Ink.

Today's challenge is to create a project that includes hearts.  This turned out to be a real challenge for me because I am seriously lacking in the heart department as far as stamps are concerned!  As you can see no stamps were used today:)

i carry your heart with me (i carry it in my heart)

I used my PTI alpha dies to cut the letters out and the hand cut the felt heart.  It's hard to see, but I put a small heart-shaped gem inside the felt heart (a la e.e. cummings).  Stop by Nichole Heady's blog!  You still have time to join in the fun!

Runway Inspired Challenge #5

Today I'm playing along with Runway Inspired Challenge #5!  Even though I've been a fan of the site since it's inception, I have never gotten a chance to play along until today.  This week's inspiration is from the Honor Spring 2012 line.

I was inspired by 2 elements of the look: the tone-on-tone pattern and sheer fabric of the top.
To get the same tone-on-tone look, I thought I would use my PTI mehndi medallion impression plate on vellum.  My first try with just the impression plate on vellum was pathetic.  Only traces of the outer edge of the design were visible on the vellum.  So for the next try, I did fake letterpressed it.  I lightly brushed my white ink pad over the medallion design before running in through my machine.  I really like soft and subtle look this technique produced.   Just a tip: Use the ink very sparingly and wipe away any stray ink bits before pressing.

I glued the vellum overlay across the top and left the bottom unattached.  To cover up where the vellum is glued to the base card, I created a popped up layer across the top.  To create the decorative edge I used the negative side of the Victorian Lace border by PTI (gotta love double-duty tools).  I used my new favorite grey (Slate by A Muse Studio) for the sentiment for a softer look.

I'm so pleased with how this card turned out!  Thanks for taking a look!

Papertrey Ink Anniversary Fun ~ Rosie Rosette

OK, I was able to sneak in this card while my parents nap (seriously, they're passed out in my living room):)  This time I took my challenge inspiration from PTI DT member, Dawn McVey!  I love that Dawn embraces saturated color especially hot pink (my favorite)!
This card includes all kinds of PTI goodness including a stamped background with Rosie Posie hexagons and Mat Stack 5 flowers.  I also handmade a rosette with chevrons!  My inspiration from Dawn came from the Rosie Posie set and the pink/red/brown color combo.  I also "borrowed" a technique from Maile and Dawn and colored the rose with a Copic.
This is probably my last card for the day but then again, there's always half-time;)   Thanks for visiting!

Papertrey Ink Anniversary Fun ~ Baby Tags

Got one more card to share for the Papertrey Ink anniversary festivities.  This time I took my challenge inspiration from the newest PTI DT member, Ashley Cannon Newell!   And specifically, one of her favorite PTI products, Tiny Tags:)
Not that I have a style, but this card is a bit more embellished than usual and I LOVE IT!  The tiny tags are perfect for a baby card and I love the slightly updated version of pink/blue.  My favorite details are the wooden spool flag and the mix-matched heart inserts.  Cute to the nth degree!

Well, my parents are coming over right now for the Superbowl (only 5 hours to game time).  Gotta love "retired people" time, lol!  I won't get to play again today, but I'm so glad that I was able to join in all the fun!   Thanks for visiting!

Papertrey Ink Anniversary Countdown

This is my first year joining in with the Papertrey Ink anniversary festivities.  I only "found"  PTI last February and it quickly became one of my favorite places:)  This month marks their 5th anniversary and today kicks off some of the anniversary challenges, giveaways, and more.  Today's challenge inspiration is the PTI design team.  With so much inspiration to choose from, I chose Maile Belles first!   Love her clean, perfectly designed, seemingly effortless (but surely not) style!
I incorporated a few elements ala Maile (like the soft stone cardstock, black/twine buttons, peekaboo cut out technique).  I also tried a technique similar to what Maile did with Copics.  I didn't have a Copic that matched the flower bloom, so I used a blender pen (you use ink from an ink pad to "draw" with it) to create a little more dimension on the flower petals.  Hard to see in the pics, but it does give it some dimension IRL.

I hope to play along the rest of the day, so you may see multiple posts today!  Woohoo!

Rosie Posie Love Flower

I'm still experimenting a bit with some new supplies from Papertrey Ink.  What started as a way to practice with the new dye PTI inks, turned into this card.  {As you can see by my spotty stamping, I'm still getting used to the new  ink.  Spotty patches aside, I do love the fact that my ink and paper match perfectly!}
This card also gave me a chance to try out my capital letter dies.  I have a Silhouette cutter, but lately I seem to prefer the ease and immediacy of dies.  To give the letters a bit more weight, I cut them twice, once in Aqua Mist and once in Hawaiian Shores.  I stacked them slightly offset to get that shadow font look.

Here's a take away tip for adhering thin die cuts using foam dimensionals.  Instead of using pre-made foam circles/squares, use foam tape instead (I use Scotch brand).  It's easy to cut into thin strips and odd sizes.  Plus, it's cheaper and less puffy.  Your die cuts won't look like they're teetering on tower. {You smarties out there probably know this tip;)

Thanks for stopping by!  Hope you all have a wonderful Sunday!
