ColourQ Challenge #133 - Quilt Petals

I'm so happy to finally get back to crafting!  With Easter and Spring Break in our rear view mirrow, I can finally get back to regularly scheduled programming.  Today I made a card for the current ColourQ Challenge!    The pillows in the ColourQ inspiration pic made me think of a project that has been sitting in my sewing "someday list".  The project is for some fantastic felt pillows that use a technique frequently used in quilting.  {Visit The Purl Bee website for instructions and details}
To create my petals, I started with 2 die cut leaves (Sending You by PTI).  I put them face-to-face and sewed down the middle of the leaves.  Then I gently folded open the pieces sewn together to reveal a split two-color petal/leaf.  Easier to do than to type directions for;)
To really showcase the flower, I opted for a black base card.  I also die cut a little frame for the flower to sit in.  In my version you can see the stitch marks along the seam between the two colors.  If you prefer a cleaner look, I suggest using felt instead of paper or gluing the two leaves together.  The sentiment was heat embossed with a little bit of stitching along the bottom edge.
Before I finish my post, I wanted to recommend 2 products for your crafting arsenal.  The first is Post-It tape on a roll.  All the perks of Post-It notes without the waste.  This tape has the perfect amount of tack and it is perfect for holding down dies in place.  The second is drafting dots.  These removable adhesive circles are meant to hold down drafting paper/blueprint paper on a drafting table.  Very useful!
That's all for me today!  Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful day!
{Aloha, jj}
