Added 3/28/12: See the redone version of this card here!
Who knew that I had another feather card idea for the Moxie Fab World Fascination with Feathers Challenge? This idea has been in my sketchbook for quite awhile, but this is my first attempt at an actual card. Even though this version didn't turn out exactly as I envisioned, I haven't given up on it yet!
While my feather card yesterday came together quickly and easily, this one definitely did not. My first challenge was with the ink coverage. For flat stamps, I usually use A Muse or Fresh inks because the coverage is so much better. Unfortunately, this was the only dark blue I had. No amount of pouncing was working for me:)
My second challenge was getting a decent pic. The metallic gold ink, color-changing Ocean Tides cardstock, and late night lighting were definitely working against me. Despite all my issues, I still enjoyed working on this card and trying something new!
Well, I'm off to start my weekend! We have plans to go to the regional art show (my son has some art on display) but the rest of the weekend is (mostly) free! As always, I do appreciate you stopping in and for your kind comments!

JJ You have such an eye for graphics - your designs are always clean and have amazing lines. This one is no exception! I think it turned out great - the gold and the gems are the right amout of opulance to show off the regal feathers of a peacock. I have a hard time with solid stamps too - I use chalk for these - but they are messy and don't dry very fast. I will give your inks a go. Thanks for the tip!
ReplyDeleteYou re being too hard on yourself. This is a wonderful card, and the picture is just fine! A great graphic interpretation of a peacock.
ReplyDeleteI think you are WAY too hard on yourself here...
ReplyDeleteit's gorgeous!!
And I think you nailed the peacock feathers perfectly...
the gold here gives the illusion that the real feathers do...
and so perfect on the blue!
A fabulously gorgeous card! :)
A delightful original. I'm a new follower. I made a second feather card too!

I hope your son might let you share some of his artwork on your blog? I know that I'd love to see it :)
ReplyDeleteI love the card - what a clever layout, very fresh & unique - but I can only imagine how frustrating it was to photograph! Love the perfect amount of bling!
INCREDIBLE work, JJ. I love it.
ReplyDeleteI wanted you to know I nominated you for the Liebster award here...you inspire me!

LOL! I totally know what you mean about the pouncing. Doesn't it drive you nuts when it won't cooperate? Still, your card is fantastic. Such a cool design idea and that sentiment is perfect with it! Hope you guys had a good time at the art show. Is this the same some that was involved in the science fair?
ReplyDeleteHey JJ! Thanks again for linking up to the Fascination with Feathers Challenge in the Moxie Fab World! :)
